Hello Sac City Unified families,

We had so much fun welcoming students back for the 2023-2024 school year this week! Our Interim Superintendent, Lisa Allen, and Sac City Unified’s mascot, Crispin, had fun visiting our schools, students and families on the first day. 

As a reminder, schools will be closed on Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy your weekend and we’ll see your student back on Tuesday, September 5!

Joint Statement from and SCTA Regarding Compensation

The Sacramento City Unified School District and the Sacramento City Teachers Association have reached an agreement to close out the contract reopener negotiations for the recently completed 2022-2023 school year. This agreement comes one day before students begin the new fall semester and after negotiations resumed earlier this month with a commitment by both the District and SCTA to work in a collaborative manner.

Sacramento City Unified School District and Board President Chinua Rhodes (Trustee Area 5) arepleased to welcome you to a community swim at the newly opened Luther Burbank swimming pool on Saturday, August 19!  Pre-registration is required.  This new pool at Luther Burbank was made possible thanks to the voter approved Measure Q and will welcome physical education classes and student-athlete competition starting this Fall.  Sign-up in advance for one swim session on August 19, swimming space is limited:  11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or  1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m  Event Rules and Pool Information:  Children under 14 must be accompanied by adult Certified Lifeguards will be present Pool depth is between 3’6” and 7’0” Parents should use caution when bringing children who cannot stand Proper swim attire only (no cut-offs or denim) No outside food or drink allowed Water will be provided (no outside water bottles) No pool toys, noodles, life preservers, or inflatable floaties Lifejackets are OK Address: Luther Burbank H.S. 3500 Florin Rd, Sacramento, CA 95823 (Entrance located through west parking lot)  Register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-swim-at-the-new-luther-burbank-high-school-pool-tickets-696244143977

Is a student sick or has lost consciousness? Get help immediately from school staff. Rescue efforts are available throughout the school including Narcan, which can reverse the effects of a drug overdose.

Get to Know Us Community Fair

Dear Sac City Unified Families,

Join us Saturday, July 29 from 10am-1pm for a free event at Serna Center where you can meet Sac City Unified staff and community partners!

We’ll have free meals and new/used youth clothing to give away while supplies last. You can also get your bike repaired for free by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, get free COVID vaccines, enjoy live music, and enter to win our raffle for a chance to win a brand-new bike or tablet!

Summer Mobile Food Pantry Community Food Distribution: 7/5-8/18

Dear Sac City Unified Families,

This summer, The Central Kitchen is distributing grocery boxes through our Mobile Food Pantry on a first come, first served basis to any Sacramento community member, every Monday through Friday, from July 5 through August 18 between 8 am and 9:30 am. 

Special thanks to Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services and No Kid Hungry for partnering with us by providing food and funding.

Sacramento City Unified School District Announces Superintendent Transition

The Sacramento City Unified School Board today announced that Superintendent Jorge A. Aguilar will step down at the end of this month. The search for a new superintendent to lead the District will begin immediately.

Superintendent Aguilar’s last day of service in Sac City Unified () is June 30, 2023. Deputy Superintendent Lisa Allen will serve as acting superintendent during the District’s leadership transition.

CAASPP Student Score Reports

Parents/Guardians,

Your child’s 2022-23 CAASPP results are now available in the Parent Portal. You will see scores for English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. If your child was in grades five, eight or twelve, you will also see CAST (California Science Test) scores. You can view theses scores using the following path: More>Assessments>California Paperless Reporting

2023-2024 Academic Calendar

Dear Sac City Unified Families, 

At our Board of Education meeting last night, the Board approved our 2023-2024 student traditional academic calendar. The first day of school this coming fall will be Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Enroll in 2023-2024 Parent Participation Preschool Program

Your participation in preschool is a wonderful way to begin what will be many years of involvement in your child’s education.

Parents volunteer in the classroom at least one day a week in collaboration and guidance of the preschool teacher to help children develop a variety of skills including social and emotional development, pre-writing, concepts, collaborative play, and foundational skills for kindergarten.
